Coast2Coast offers advanced courses and training to first responders and those providing care in a pre-hospital setting. All training courses at Coast2Coast, including First Responder (FR) & Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), are based on Canadian Red Cross guidelines.

A team approach to professional life-support skills is offered in courses that meet the needs of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. Courses also vary in the number of hours individuals go under training. Each of our Professional Responder courses covers a variety of topics from basic (circulation and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission) to advanced (sudden medical emergencies and injuries to the head and/or spine), including instruction dedicated to understanding workplace legislation and responsibilities.

One of our most advanced training courses is the First Responder or First Responder Recertification course. These courses were created to teach students in first responder roles various life-saving techniques they will require for their job.

Training Courses

As an EMR student, your course will heavily focus on skills-based training. Students may choose to enroll in the full EMR course, EMR Recertification or EMR Upgrade. These advanced courses will prepare students who are/will become firefighters, rescue safety members and other first responder roles to save lives.

What To Expect During FR/EMR Training

Students will practice hands-on skills with the best training equipment around! This training is heavily scenario-based. Students will be required to think on the spot in order to provide the best care for their “patient.” Each student will respond to multiple scenarios under the guidance of an experienced Canadian Red Cross instructor.

Not only will you learn how to perform techniques, you will also learn how to communicate and work as a team. It is important to understand that working together can make the difference between life and death.

During scenario training, students will have the opportunity to act as a primary responder, secondary responder, victim and bystander. Primary responders must give orders to their secondary responder. Each responder must work together to care for the victim. They must also communicate with the bystander and victim to find out more information regarding the incident.

Scott's First Responder Recert absolutely exceeded my expectations. I am a relatively new Athletic Therapist who was looking for my first recert and didn't know what to expect from a recert that wasn't led by an athletic therapist. Scott was able to make the class engaging, was able to challenge each of us individually based on our strengths and weakness, helped me learn to really "own" the leadership role in responding, and brought along a strong sense of humour that kept me engaged. I've had 2 courses at this location - one with Ali and one with Kia - with both courses being very in-depth and informative, while still being very fun and engaging over several hours thanks to the instructors being both knowledgeable and entertaining with their presentation styles. Highly recommended.

FYI - Each course ends with an online test, so make sure you have a phone and remember the information you used to sign up for the course to avoid being locked out.

Ezz was great! He was a top notch instructor despite having hip pain. Made the course enjoyable, engaging, and left us very good nuggets of information that I will always remember. My only feedback for this program is not with the instructor, but with the company. I wanted to cancel a class that I had booked with three weeks notice and was told I would be charged $35. I think that policy makes sense with a last minute cancelation but not within a three week notice.
Something to consider to ensure customer satisfaction.
