Workplace Safety and Insurance Act: Regulation 1101
Many companies are covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), meaning that if an employee gets injured at work, they will be eligible to file a claim in order to receive insurance and/or support.
What Is Regulation 1101?
Regulation 1101 is a guideline that employers must follow under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. This includes requirements such as first aid, a first aid room, specific items inside a first aid kit, an employee/employees who are trained to provide first aid and more.
The necessary requirements differ from workplace to workplace depending on the amount of employees on site. We recommend employers to check the WSIB website
According to WSIB Regulation 1101, employers must have the following First Aid Requirements:
(1) A first aid station shall contain,
(a) a first aid box containing the items required by this Regulation; and
(b) a notice board displaying,
(i) the Board’s poster known as Form 82,
(ii) the valid first aid certificates of qualification of the trained workers on duty, and
(iii) an inspection card with spaces for recording the date of the most recent inspection of the first aid box and the signature of the person making the inspection. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 1101, s. 1 (1).
(2) A first aid station shall be in the charge of a worker who works in the immediate vicinity of the first aid station and who is qualified in first aid to the standards required by this Regulation. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 1101, s. 1 (2).
(3) First aid stations shall be so located as to be easily accessible for the prompt treatment of any worker at all times when work is in progress. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 1101, s. 1 (3)

Employers are required to:
- Give first aid immediately. First aid may include bandaging, cleaning cuts, applying an ice pack and more.
- provide the worker with a record of treatment and/or advice.
- Supply transportation to the worker’s home, a doctor or hospital if required.
- Fill out WSIB Form 7 if the injured worker gets health care and return it to the worker within three days. The employer must also provide a copy of this form to the WSIB.
- All wages and benefits should be paid to the worker on the day of injury.
- Provide the Functional Abilities Form 2647 to the health care provider of the worker.
- Assist the worker with the reintegration process.
